Has anyone ever read any Ken Follett novels?

I'm looking for a good novelist to get into (current novelist). What's his stories like? Who could you compare him to? All I ever read is old stuff, because I'm an English major in school. I enjoy Chuck Paleniuk (forgot how to spell that) but I wanna read more stuff from current writers. Any other suggestions are appreciated.
